Wet-dry & Sumps Wet-dry or sump filters are large filter systems for the bigger aquariums.
These are similar to canister filters in that they are positioned under the tank
and operate on a siphon and return powered by a pump. They also require an overflow
or plumbing-ready tank for proper operation. The sump area can contain additional
equipment such as heaters or protein skimmer reducing visible equipment in the
aquarium.
