Vertex ZF-30 Zeolith Reactor NeoZeo Starter Kit
Zeolith-based probiotic filtration has gained a strong following over recent years and rightly so. By utilizing the nutrient processing traits of selective bacteria strains as well as a substrate facilitative to their metabolic needs, Zeolith-based probiotic filtration effectively creates Ultra Low Nutrient (ULN) conditions that most closely mimic reef environments.

This kit has just about everything you need to get started with Neo Zeo. We have chosen these components based on easy setup and value. Save money and get the free bonus color boosting coral feeding dosing instructions ebook when you buy the kit!

How does it work?
This probiotic method for keeping reef aquariums can give the hobbyists a sort of an edge over using standard saltwater filtration methods alone. Probiotic methods allow you to have a more active influence over the water chemistry to enhance fish/coral health and especially coral coloration.

The zeolith reactor is the heart of the system allowing the water to constantly pass through the zeo stones back to the aquarium. The Vertex Zeolith reactor is used in sump. The reactor has a handle on top allow you to plunge/purge the zeo stones.

The Microbacter7 is the bacteria source that is added to the aquarium and will form growths on the zeo stones. The plunge/purge operation releases this growth from the stones passing it on to your aquarium as a food source for your corals.

The Reef BioFuel is the C source or fuel/food source for the bacteria. This really gets the bacteria growing and consumes nitrate and phosphates in the process making your reef aquarium much more coral friendly.

Once your system organics and nutrients are under control with the NeoZeo starter kit you will then begin to expand your coral feeding and start the color boosting dosing with other supplements sold separately.

Preparing for NeoZeo
A couple of things to note when you start a probiotic method. Do these things and it will help with the transition of your saltwater reef tank over to what is known as an ULNS (ultra low nutrient system):

  • Tune up your RO/DI system. Get a TDS meter and make sure your water is 0ppm TDS.
  • If you don't have an RO/DI water purification filter you should consider getting one for best results with topoff and saltwater mixing.
  • Balance your aquarium parameters with you Calcium at 400-420ppm, Alkalinity at 7-8.5 dKH, and Magnesium at 1280-1300ppm.
  • Probiotic methods require a good protein skimmer for effective use. Get a good skimmer if you don't already have one.
  • Test a fresh mixed batch of your salt mix at 1.026 S.G. (35ppt) Salinity for Ca, Alk and Mg. Use the results as your targets so you are not fighting your salt mix.
  • Read the Neo Zeo Manual
